The Malaysian and Singaporean Society (MASSOC) is an established
society in the University of Leeds for over 10 years. It is
a young and vibrant multi-racial society consisting of nearly 300 members from Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Hong Kong, Japan,
Mauritius... and even Britain. The
society aims to promote integration among students in the
University, to look after the welfare and interests of members at
large, and also to do our very best in bringing a fulfilling,
memorable and enjoyable year for the members during their student
life here in Leeds.
Activities are organised throughout the year in order to promote
both the Malaysian and Singaporean cultures to everyone. Our
annual events include the Asian Food Fest where members set up
stalls to sell delicious food from back home. Also, we will be
organising the Cultural Night some time in February.
Distinguished guests will be invited to join us, performances
will also be staged.
Apart from that, outings and trips have also been planned.
Recently, we have organised trips to Alton Towers and also to the
Lake District with very good response. Members who went have
thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
In addition to that, we also have sports-related activities. The
Sports Hall is booked every Saturday from 10.30am to 12.30pm for
the use of members. At the moment, we are also having selections
for people who intend to join the Nottingham Games on 30
November, 1996 in various events. This is also a good opportunity
to meet up with other MASSOCs in other parts of England.
